Cystic Fibrosis is a hereditary disease which
affects the glands, lungs, pancreas and digestive tract. One in
nineteen people are carriers and if both parents are carriers there is
a one in four chance that they will have a child with CF. Ireland has
the highest case of Cystic Fibrosis in the world and yet the life
expectancy of those with this disease is in the mid twenties compared
to that of Northern Ireland or Britain which is in the mid thirties.
This is because Ireland has no dedicated CF units. CF
sufferers undergo a daily routine of medication and physical therapy.
The lack of facilities in Ireland to cope with their medical and
physical needs is unacceptable. The Tracie Lawlor Trust was set up to
give Cystic Fibrosis sufferers in Wexford a better chance. We would
hope that other counties will follow in our footsteps with raising
awareness and maybe set up a trust for their own counties.
Please take the time to sign our guestbook for the Tracie Lawlor Trust for Cystic Fibrosis. We'd love to hear what you think!
